Hull is one of the great port cities of Britain. For over 1,000 years it has traded with the Baltic, northern Europe and the Mediterranean. It is still as important today.

Starting with a short overview of its history: it was founded in 1293 by Edward I who was wanting a northern arms depot; it became a flashpoint for the English Civil War in 1642; in Victorian times it became Britain's largest fishing port. Today, its a vibrant city of culture; it remains a gateway to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge (Belgium) with daily ferry services; visitors walk along High Street and look at almost 1,000 years of trading history.

Those who have visited come away telling others what a wonderful place it is.

The majority of the book is taken up with the Guide to the city. Following a circular route, at almost every step there's something that makes you stop: the city's association with historical figures including Robinson Crusoe, William Wilberforce, Mick Ronson (David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era guitarist and arranger) and many others. There's museums; a walk along the old harbour quay and a look in the merchant's houses dating back to the 18th century; and a stroll around the Marina where you can see the shipping coming up and down the Humber estuary.

The Guide uses over 100 photographs, so you can identify what to find and there's an informative description to tell you all about what you are looking at. In fact, you don't even need to visit the city to learn all about it. In addition there are route maps, web links and a link to our web site www.ivizzit.com and our YouTube Channel that brings exclusive videos and details of shops, place to eat, visit and stay.
