In today's fast-paced world, travel has become more accessible and desirable than ever before. The millennial generation is known for their adventuresome spirit and willingness to explore the unknown. They have redefined travel as we know it, embracing new experiences and seeking authentic connections with the places they visit.

But what about the baby boomer generation? Is it possible for them to travel like the millennials, even as they enter their golden years? The answer is a resounding yes! With the right mindset and a few practical tips, baby boomers can enhance their travel experiences and explore the world just like the younger generations.

1. Embrace Technology

One of the key reasons millennials are able to travel extensively is their comfort with technology. Baby boomers can also harness the power of technology to make traveling more accessible and enjoyable. From booking flights and accommodation to finding local attractions and connecting with fellow travelers, the internet and mobile apps can be incredible resources.

For example, using travel websites and apps like Expedia, Airbnb, and TripAdvisor, baby boomers can plan their trips efficiently and find the best deals. They can also use social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to gain insights from other travelers and discover hidden gems in popular travel destinations.

2. Embrace Flexibility

Millennials are known for their flexible travel plans, often opting for spontaneous trips rather than strict itineraries. Baby boomers can also embrace this concept and include more flexibility in their travel plans. By being open to new experiences and impromptu detours, they can add excitement and adventure to their journeys.

Furthermore, embracing flexibility allows baby boomers to avoid the stress of strict schedules and maximize their travel opportunities. It gives them the freedom to explore at their own pace and make the most of each destination they visit.

3. Embrace Authentic Experiences

One of the hallmarks of millennial travel is the desire for authentic experiences. They seek to immerse themselves in local cultures, try unique cuisines, and engage in meaningful interactions with the people they meet. Baby boomers can also adopt this mindset and prioritizing authentic experiences over touristy attractions.

By seeking out local markets, attending cultural events, or even participating in volunteer activities, baby boomers can create lasting memories and forge deeper connections during their travels. It's these authentic experiences that truly make a trip memorable and enriching.

4. Embrace Solo Travel

Although millennials often travel in groups or with friends, they also have a propensity for solo travel. This allows them to fully immerse themselves in their surroundings and discover their own personal travel style. Baby boomers can also benefit from solo travel, pushing their boundaries and gaining a sense of independence.

Solo travel allows baby boomers to create their own itineraries, prioritize their interests, and connect with locals on a deeper level. It provides an opportunity for self-reflection, personal growth, and the chance to step out of their comfort zones. By embracing solo travel, baby boomers can empower themselves to truly travel like the millennials do.

5. Embrace Budget-Friendly Options

Another aspect of millennial travel is their ability to find budget-friendly options. Baby boomers can also adopt this mindset and make their travel experiences more affordable. By looking for alternative accommodations such as hostels, homestays, or vacation rentals, they can save money while still enjoying comfortable and unique accommodations.

Additionally, baby boomers can take advantage of discounts and senior citizen benefits that are available in many travel destinations. Planning trips during off-peak seasons can also result in significant savings. By embracing budget-friendly options, baby boomers can stretch their travel budgets and explore the world within their means.

While the millennial generation may have revolutionized modern travel, there's no reason why the baby boomer generation can't enjoy the same experiences. By embracing technology, flexibility, authentic experiences, solo travel, and budget-friendly options, baby boomers can travel like the millennials – youthful, adventurous, and full of wanderlust. So pack your bags, baby boomers, and get ready to embark on your own travel adventure of a lifetime!

WHY would a 64-year-old man permanently leave the US and choose to travel the world, staying for six weeks at each location? Because the world is an amazing adventure and experience and traveling (and working remotely) has NEVER been easier.

Inspired by the Millennial Generation who make travel a priority, Norm wanted to focus on QUALITY of life over Quantity. Regardless of your age, you, too, can travel like a Millennial. Smart phones put information at your fingertips, and AirBNBs, UBER, Google Maps and other apps, make traveling a less fearless and overwhelming experience than in years passed. But there is a learning process of selling everything you own, saying goodbye to friends and family, and deciding where to go and how long to stay. Visa restrictions are surprisingly easy to navigate, and you can move from one country to the next without immigration issues if you do it properly.

Norm has lived in Spain; Italy (twice); Croatia, Romania, Tunisia, Greece, most of Eastern Europe plus Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam as he ventured into Southeast Asia in less than one year and with no plans to stop. Until COVID...

This book is a compilation of blog entries and learning experiences since the day he left the United States.
